    Though this city was one of the most progressive city of its era but now it is a laggard and the socio-economic condition of the citizens are not up to the mark of the national level. The district has the history of supplying migrant labourers to industrial hub like Mumbai, kolkata, Surat, Ahmedabad etc.The entire economy revolves around the fund trasnsfer money from the metros of different cities. Though a markable and visible upliftment has been seen in socio-economic condition of the netizens and the infrastructure has come up in the last one decade but still there is great amount of room for develoment, especially in the field of education.

    मुगल बादशाह शाहजहॉ के द्वारा शि‍राज-ए- हि‍न्‍द के खि‍ताब से नवाजा गया जौनपुर जनपद जहॉ एक ओर शि‍क्षा के क्षेत्र में मध्‍यकालीन भारत के इति‍हास में अपनी स्‍थापि‍त करता है वही अपनी ऐति‍हासि‍क इमारतो जैसे शाही कि‍ला, अटाला मस्‍जि‍द एवं झंझरी मस्‍जि‍द एवं शाहीपुल के तमाम ऐति‍हासि‍क धरोहरो को सजोए हुए है। प्राचीनकाल में महर्षि‍ यमदग्‍नि‍ (परशुराम के पि‍ता) की तपोस्‍थली एवं कालान्‍तर बुद्ध काल के क्रि‍या कलापों में महत्‍वपूर्ण स्‍थान मच्‍छि‍का सण्‍ड (मछलीशहर) एवं कीटगि‍रि‍ (केराकत) को अपने में समेटे जौनपुर शहर का नाम जौनपुर अपने संस्‍थापक जूना शाह के नाम पर सन् 1360 में रखा गया। 17 वीं शताब्‍दी एवं 18 वीं शताब्‍दी में सूती वस्‍त्र एवं इत्र उघोग के लि‍ये प्रसि‍द्ध जौनपुर 15 वीं शताब्‍दी में जहॉ महादेवी आन्‍दोलन में सक्रि‍य भूमि‍का का र्नि‍वाह करता था वही उसे अन्‍ति‍म शर्की शासन हुसैन शाह शर्की का नाम संगीत रागो हुसैनी, कन्‍हारा एवं टोडी की उत्‍पत्‍ति‍ के साथ जोड़ा जाता है। कि‍वदन्‍ती है कि‍ प्रथम स्‍वतंत्रता संग्राम में रोटी और कमल रूपी प्रतीक की योजना जौनपुर के मौलाना करामत अली की ही थी। आदि‍ गंगा गोमती के दोनो तटो पर बसा जौनपुर वर्तमान में अपनी 6 तहसीलों एवं 4038 वर्ग कि‍0मी0 क्षेत्रफल के साथ उत्‍तर प्रदेश के सबसे बड़े जि‍लो में है इसमे 2 लोकसभा क्षेत्र, 9 वि‍धान सभा क्षेत्र, 6 तहसील एवं 21 वि‍कास खण्‍ड सम्‍मि‍लि‍त है।
